Measuring Progress towards Sustainability in the European Union within the 2030 Agenda Framework

The adoption of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) revived challenge to efficiently address economic prosperity, environmental quality social welfare goals. To fulfill such purposes, policymakers need measure monitor global progress made by countries towards achievement SDGs. Composite indicators have frequently been used for sustainability performance assessment in a range areas related recently some attempts analyze trends within framework. objective this study is propose novel composite indicator approach assess evaluate whether being Some distinguishing features proposed involve computation weights use geometric average at overall aggregation stage. applied evaluation SDGs EU27 during period 2010–2020 using Eurostat SDG dataset. results obtained suggest that all 27 Member States progressed favorably, albeit not same extent, differences between seem be decreasing over years.
